Our first adventure, with the letter N. Night on a houseboat…..

I booked it through Canopy and Stars; they have an array of fantastic, unique and somewhat quirky places to stay. This particular boat was located near Bude in North Cornwall, when we arrived at the houseboat we were greeted by Ivan and little Freddie, he was our tour guide who at 21 months was just adorable, we were given clear instructions and shown around the boat and its surroundings.DSC_0189

We were immediately amazed at the boats beauty with the lovely fairy lights on the outside and colourful bunting around the hot tub and shower, it looked like a magical retreat in its rustic and natural setting. Upon stepping aboard we saw that it was well equipped with the essentials to make a cuppa, some toast, a small fridge to store your food and a small Belling oven to cook on, this was great for us as we were desperate for a drink and some food.

We had our lunch, played a game of cards and familiarised ourselves with our new abode for the night, I won of course as I so often do. Whilst looking around I noticed there were some clever storage designs, a wardrobe for mine and Mr P’s clothes, a full length mirror (always a must for us ladies) and a draw for our undies and socks.

We also had the experience of a solid fuel heated hot tub, there was an additional fee for this but it was amazing and well worth it, sitting outside at the end of October enjoying a glass of wine whilst listening to Ben Howard and star gazing. After our lovely hot tub and we decided to snuggle up in the large comfortable bed and watch TV, whilst sipping hot chocolate. A truly surreal evening….DSC_0198

How could I forget to explain the toilet facilities!! They comprised of a wooden shed with an eco friendly sawdust toilet, not for the faint hearted, but a good rustic system, very easy to use but a tad chilly in the middle of the night.. Brrr!! (Top tip take a torch as there’s no light!).

After a great night’s sleep we woke feeling refreshed and totally relaxed, now to master the outdoor shower! Mr P decided not to have a shower, however for the purposes of the blog I thought I should, needless to say it was rather cold and lasted only a few minutes, but after a quick dip in the hot tub (which was still warm from the evening before) I soon managed to warm myself up.DSC_0192

We had the most fantastic night on this enchanting gem and would recommend it as we plan to return for another visit.
