Sugar free apple and blackberry crumble

It’s that time of year when the hedges are plentiful with berries ready for Autumn such as the blackberry. Since my childhood I have enjoyed this delicious dessert of apple & blackberry crumble. So being sugar free I was concerned that I was no longer be able to savour this delicious dessert. While I was armed with a tub I set off in search to find some ripe plump blackberries. I enjoy picking blackberries, savouring the country air then heading back with a tub fall to the brim of tasty berries. Not forgetting my berry stained fingers.

Ingredients for the filling

300g of apples
150g blackberries
2 tablespoons of date nectar

Ingredients for topping 

120g of plain flour
60g of butter
60g of oats
1 tbsp of linseeds
2 tbsp of date nectar

 

Method

Pre heat the oven to 200°C
Peel and chop the apples into quarters, then remove the core
Place the apples, blackberries and date nectar into a pan with half a cup of water
Boil for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally
Transfer the apple and blackberry mixture to a oven proof bowl
Place the flour and butter into a bowl and rub until they resemble breadcrumbs
Add the oats, linseeds and date nectar and mix together
Sprinkle the mixture over your fruits ensuring its all covered
Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown
