This book by Hemsley and Hemsley is fantastic, it’s full of great recipes ideas which I have been sampling throughout August. It contains good and simple cooking tips which you can adapt to suit your own lifestyle. Chapter one begins with a reboot plan following a weeks programme. This gives you helpful tips and general advice about well being and pampering yourself.
Chapter two is breakfast ideas. If your looking at ways of how to kick start your morning then look no further this book has it covered. Their fantastic recipes start your morning on a positive note with a healthy plate of goodness. I’ve made the incredible Quinoa Courgette Toast which was so delicious and versatile as well as being healthy. A brilliant way to start the day.
Soups & Stews
Next up is the most useful part of the book for me, soups & stews. As a huge fan of one-pot meals they are convenient and suit my lifestyle. This section has a variety of amazing and easy recipes to enjoy.
Snacks & Sides
As my diet is sugar free I am always open to experiment with new flavours, trying a variety of new snacks & sides. Its great to use these dishes especially in the summer months. This is a busy time of year when I have guests flooding through for BBQ’s and alfresco dining. I’ve made the Celeriac & Blue Cheese Gratin which was devoured in minutes, unfortunately I didn’t get to sample any but my guests assured me it was delicious. The Cucumber & Smoked Salmon canapés also went down a treat.
Sandwiches & Salads
As you can guess this chapter is all about sandwiches & salads. Due to traveling and other commitments I have been a little limited on time to sample these delights. However when September arrives I will making some of these sandwiches as they look devine. I did manage to make the Vietnamese Rainbow Rolls using my Julienne Peeler which once again my guests devoured in minutes.
Meat & Fish
Meat and fish next, with gorgeous easy tasty dishes and a few one pot meals included. I decided to make the Slow Cooked Chicken Pot Roast with Sweet Paprika & Cayenne, lovely stew like meal but had that extra kick of flavours to it. I also made the Slow Cooked Smokey Apple Pulled Pork another winner.
As the weather gets cooler I am looking forward to sampling more of this section. Vegetable mains are a fabulous idea as I have so many vegetarian friends. I have been experimenting with the Lentil Bake and the various ways to make Courgette Pesto which uses 3 different styles and flavours.
Dips, Dressings, Sauces & Spreads
I will be experimenting with this chapter as I’m looking forward to making my very own spreads and dips.
Baking desserts, no sweets….
Now for my ultimate favourite section ‘baking, desserts no sweets…’ What more can I say! I have made the Tahini Date Fridge Fudge which lasted minutes. Need I say more!
Quench your thurst with the lovely delicious invigorating cool drinks on a hot summers day. I’ve tried so many of them I can’t quite remember which ones I’ve tasted. All delicious and refreshing.
Last but not least
The last part of the book is broken down into planning ahead which provides you with a weekly menu. Then the great organic debate….. what to buy and not to buy. Informative information about stocking your kitchen effectively with advice on kitchen essentials. Finally looking at good healthy habits and eating well on the go.
